PresidentHiroyuki Iwasaki

We have been operating to ultimately achieve our goals “to innovate in the medical and healthcare fields in Japan and to contribute through creating benefits for everyone in daily life” since our establishment of August 2003.

Technologies of information and communications were not developed enough, which restricted secondary utilization of medical and healthcare data. This lead to the issue of individuals not able to understand their whole medical information and it ultimately became the reason why our company was founded.

As a question, how many people fully understand their medical information such as hospital visits, prescription history in their lifetime? “I presume that this is very small number of people”.

We will solve these problems and improve medical and healthcare through utilization of medical information as we aim to create a society where individuals can track and understand their whole medical and healthcare data and where one individual can select the necessary medical and healthcare services.

We, MDV Group, will continue to operate to fulfill our mission.
We look forward to your continuous support.

Business Overview

Our business consists of two pillars, “Data Network Service” and “Data Utilization Service”. In order to provide “data utilization services,” we collect medical and health information through “data network services”.

Our business consists of two pillars, “Data Network Service” and “Data Utilization Service”

Data Network Services

We mainly provide systems to support the management of hospitals, a key source of medical information. Simultaneously, we accumulate medical and health information once we have received the requisite consent from hospital and individuals.

Sales from our main products, ‘EVE’ and ‘Medical Code’, are comprised of initial installation fees and monthly maintenance fees. ‘EVE’ has an almost 50% share of the market for DPC (diagnosis procedure combination) hospitals, comparatively large institutions that are assigned for emergency and acute care.

Overview of the main products and services in the Data Network Service segment

In this business segment, we supply systems that use DPC data to enable hospital managers to analyze the medical care menu and situation in their own institution and compare performance with other hospitals.

The systems allow analyses of every facet of hospital management, including cost control.

Data Utilization Services

The medical and health data accumulated in the Data Network Service segment is anonymized and, after we have received consent from hospitals and individuals for secondary usage, supplied to pharmaceutical companies and research institutions for use in analyzing treatments and diseases.

The main services are ‘MDV analyzer’ and the ‘Ad hoc survey service’. Sales from ‘MDV analyzer’ are comprised of annual prescription fees, while sales from the ‘Ad hoc survey service’ are fees that are calculated for each individual survey, which differ depending on the requested operations.

In addition, we have also begun supplying various types of analytical data to insurance companies and other clients not directly involved in the healthcare services.

Overview of the main products and services in the Data Utilization Service segment

In this business segment, we supply systems that can be used to conduct online analysis of the state of daily drug prescription in acute care facilities, which is not available in the analytical menus of ‘MDV analyzer’, and also survey services customized to the needs of each pharmaceutical company.

Advantages of MDV

Unique construction of medical big data

We have Japan’s largest medical database in terms of volume and quality. The creation of this database has made possible analysis of the state of drug prescriptions at frontline medical institutions, something that was previously difficult to assess.

Possessing know-how and human resources for the utilization of medical big data

Due to its complexity, medical big data requires significant knowledge and technological expertise to apply in business decisions. MDV was among the first private-sector companies to begin analyzing DPC data and it has accumulated substantial know-how. As a pioneer of medical big data utilization, we now leverage this wealth of specialist knowledge as a provider of data analysis. We endeavor to hire engineers and data scientists with a high level of information processing skill and provide training to further their capabilities.

Overwhelmingly large number of installations

Our DPC analytical benchmark system ‘EVE’ has won high praise from medical institutions across Japan and has been installed in close to half of all DPC hospitals (an installation rate of around 45%).

Strong network with medical institutions nationwide

We run a user group, MDV Club, for the medical institutions that use our products and services and have built a strong network with medical institutions across Japan. We are able to leverage this strength to generate feedback from users that we can utilize to create better products and services.

Providing a secure data environment

For all our products and services, we take the utmost care to ensure secure data acquisition and management by complying with all laws and regulations on personal information and conducting our operations in line with a range of guidelines for the handling of medical information.

Extensive support system

We not only sell systems to customers, but also assist them via a variety of content, including operating a user support site and holding seminars and study meetings, to help them get the most out of our systems. The study meetings and medical policy seminars that we hold in various regions around Japan are particularly useful as an opportunity for medical institutions to exchange information.
*These events are currently mostly being held online in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
