FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about MDV’s real-world clinical data.

No. Our databases includes both inpatient and outpatient insurance claims data.
As of March 1, 2026, our coverage includes 618 of the 1,761 DPC-designated hospitals in Japan.
DPC stands for Diagnosis Procedure Combination. Unlike the traditional fee for service reimbursement model, the DPC system is a flat sum reimbursement scheme for inpatient care. Medical fees are calculated using fixed daily rates determined by the MHLW (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare), based on the patient’s diagnosis, disease severity, presence of surgery or complications, and details of the treatments provided.
Hospitals designated under the DPC system are also required to submit DPC data to the MHLW on a quarterly basis.
Yes. Through our Health Insurance Database, data from clinic visits are also available. Beside providing insurance claim data from DPC hospitals, MDV is also supplying data from the Health Insurance Societies and National Health Insurance thanks to partnership with external providers.
Each DPC hospital assigns a unique ID to each patient, so it is possible to track both inpatient and outpatient visits within the same DPC hospital, but it is not possible to track patients after they have been transferred to another hospital.
