Agreement between MDV and DeNA to cooperate in healthcare businessA Cooperation centered on optimizing the use of medical big data

  • April 8, 2022

Medical Data Vision Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Hiroyuki Iwasaki, hereinafter MDV), which aims to unify medical data, and DeNA Co., Ltd. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Shingo Okamura) are pleased to announce that they have reached a basic agreement to consider collaborating in the healthcare business with the goal to find solutions to social issues in health and medical care. This collaboration is mainly focusing on promoting the utilization of medical big data.

MDV’s largest medical care database in Japan consists of hospital data for 39.4 million patients (actual number of patients, totaled as of the end of March 2022) and health insurance association data for 7.7 million patients. MDV started the medical data business in April 2008 and has continued to process and curate data upon obtaining the license from trusting medical institutions to provide anonymously processed data to the healthcare professionals in academia and in the industry. Since the MDV database is mostly sourced from medical institutions classified in the handling of highly acute and acute phases in terms of medical function category, MDV decided to incorporate health insurance data from April 2020, which provided more insight regarding the treatment recovery phase or the chronic management phase and expanded to other hospitals and clinics. Adding such data enables a more prolonged study of the patient’s journey.

DeNA subsidiary DeSC Healthcare, Inc. (Shibuya Ward, CEO: Sho Segawa, Representative Director: Kuniaki Miyake) provides the healthcare entertainment app “kencom” to health insurance associations and local governments. It is used by a total of about 100 groups managing 4.8 million people. Upon obtaining the license for data handling from health insurance associations, data are combined with the data of the National Health Insurance Association and are used in a way that contributes to the public interest.
