Capital and business alliance with Layered, a company providing web-based medical questionnaire service. Promoting DX using medical big data to create benefits for patients and healthcare professionals

  • January 30, 2023

Medical Data Vision Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroyuki Iwasaki; hereinafter “MDV”), which owns the largest medical big data in Japan, has formed a capital and business alliance with Layered Inc. (Fukuoka City; President: Makito Kezuka), which develops and provides the web-based medical questionnaire service “Symview” and other products. The aim is to create benefits for both patients and healthcare professionals by realizing healthcare DX (Digital Transformation = the use of digital technology to not only improve business processes but also to transform products and services) through the use of data related to patient questionnaires and other information.

Layered collects data on nearly 1 million medical questionnaires every month through “Symview.” Based on patient data from Layered, MDV helps patients receive appropriate medical care at an early stage by identifying their health problems and what the patient reported during the consultation, which specialty the patient consulted, and which drugs were prescribed after the medical examination. In addition, by capturing the patient’s treatment behavior and flow lines within the hospital, it becomes easier to consider efficient workflow, contributing to the “working style reform” of healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, Layered will promote Symview to hospitals that have adopted MDV’s business support system, MDV Act, and other systems.

Layered is also developing “Kakarite,” a PRM (Patient Relationship Management = Patient Relationship Management / Medical version of CRM = Customer Relationship Management) tool for patients with chronic diseases that primarily connects the patient with their family doctors who are mainly working in clinics. In the field of medical care, the electronic medical record can only provide information for each consultation, but with Kakarite, it is possible to integrate and fully understand patient information that is scattered across various medical records. With this capital and business alliance, MDV, together with Layered, will examine the use of medical big data to support patient care.

Comment from President Iwasaki

Our goal is to realize a society in which people can choose their medical treatment. To facilitate participation in medical care, we have developed and made available “Karteco,” a personal health record (PHR) that provides medical data back to the patient. The web questionnaire is the first step toward patient participation in medical care. I believe that new value can be created by linking and using the patient data collected through medical questionnaires with our hospital data that we have accumulated over the years. By linking data to hospitals DX, improvement of workflow and progress in “work style reform” will benefit healthcare providers. This alliance will not only benefit the healthcare providers, but through this partnership, we will also discuss a scheme that will enable patients suffering from illnesses to reach necessary and appropriate medical care as quickly as possible.
