Introducing an automated tool to display surgery counts and help hospital staff with seasonal challenges

  • January 30, 2025

Medical Data Vision Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Hiroyuki Iwasaki), a company that develops and provides hospital management support systems, is pleased to announce the launch of an automated tool for aggregating “surgery counts,” which hospitals are required to display on their bulletin board.

Medical institutions are obligated to display the number of surgeries from the previous year (from January to December) for surgeries listed in Chapter 2, Section 10, General Rules 5 and 6 of the Medical Fee Schedule (including Chapter 2, Section 9, General Rules 4 of the Dental Fee Schedule) on-site, categorized according to the facility standards, when calculating surgery points for applicable procedures.

Until now, many hospital staff have manually counted the surgery numbers based on claim data and other sources, which was time-consuming and became a burden during the period when the previous year’s data was finalized, putting additional pressure on normal operations.

To address this issue, we have developed an Excel tool, “Surgery Count Aggregation Tool for bulletin board in the hospital (Surgery Facility Standards),” which automatically aggregates surgery counts using DPC data and other sources. This tool will be provided for free on our community website “Chokotsuna” (*1).

With this tool, hospitals that previously took about a week to aggregate surgery counts will now be able to complete the process in approximately 2 minutes (*note: aggregation time may vary depending on computer specifications and data volume). Hospital staff are expected to benefit from improved operational efficiency.
