Japan’s largest hospital database surpasses 40 millionAddressing plenty of analytical needs such as the impact of corona pandemic on healthcare system
- June 1, 2022
Medical Data Vision Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Hiroyuki Iwasaki, hereinafter MDV), which aims to unify medical data in Japan, is pleased to announce that its main medical database just exceeded 40 million patient/data this month (as aggregated at the end of May 2022).
MDV started the medical care data business in April 2008 and has continued since then to collect and process data anonymously with a license for secondary usage obtained from medical institutions. Incorporation of data from health insurance societies started in April 2020. The data for the recovery period and the chronic period have been enriched, and it is now possible to track information on each hospital / clinic as well as information on the transfer destination. Health insurance data represent more than 7 million patients (aggregated at the end of May 2022). Together with DeNA Co., Ltd. (Shibuya Ward, President and CEO: Shingo Okamura), joining a business alliance agreement in May last month, we are aiming at building a database of over 15 million insured patients.
The MDV medical care database is currently being used by pharmaceutical companies, medical materials and equipment manufacturers to understand market conditions and elaborate product strategies. There is also a need from academia, and inquiries are also active for original data to produce papers and to present research at academic conferences. Recently, the revised GPSP Ministerial Ordinance (Ministerial Ordinance on Standards for Post-Manufacturing and Sales Surveys and Testing of Pharmaceuticals) came into effect in April 2018, and MDV has been appointed as a reference sourcing for post-marketing database surveys.
