Medical Data Vision Co., Ltd. (MDV), which develops and provides the personal health record (PHR)system Karteco, allowing individuals to manage their lifelong health and medical information, conducted a survey among Karteco users. The results showed that among those who were advised to undergo re-examinations based on their health checkup results, nearly half cited “no symptoms” as the reason for not following up. Additionally, when asked about the timing of autonomic nervous system measurements, a newly added feature in Karteco, the most common response was “when feeling fatigue or stress.”

This survey was conducted online from January 29 to February 5, 2025, targeting Karteco users, including patients and individuals who underwent health checkups, with 8,412 respondents. Karteco launched in June 2015 and is currently available at 10 medical institutions and health checkup facilities. In November 2023, Karteco enhanced its functionality to enable autonomic nervous system measurements, among other features. Additionally, in October of last year, an AI-powered “Future Prediction” feature was introduced, displaying the risk of developing 34 diseases within three years based on health checkup results. Including those who have downloaded and use the app, the total number of Karteco users is approximately 800,000.

The gender ratio of respondents was 3:7, and by age group, the largest proportion was in their 60s (38.14%), followed by those in their 50s (36.0%) and 40s (14.8%).

Around 80% Undergo or Plan to Undergo Follow-Up Examinations

When asked whether they underwent a follow-up examination after being advised to do so based on their health checkup results, 78.7% responded that they had undergone or planned to undergo the examination, while 21.3% had not.

For those who did not undergo a follow-up examination, multiple reasons were cited. The most common reason was “I have no symptoms or concerns, so I’m waiting to see how things go” (49.9%), followed by “I regularly consult my family doctor” (21.7%), “I don’t have time” (17.2%), and “The cost feels like a burden” (13.8%).

Upon Waking and Before Bed” Also Among Top Times for Autonomic Nervous System Measurements

When users of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) measurement feature were asked about the timing of their measurements (multiple responses allowed), the most common response was “when feeling fatigue or stress” (62.5%), followed by “upon waking and before bed” (42.7%). These results suggest that users check for ANS imbalances when experiencing mental fatigue or aim to regulate their ANS for better sleep.

The ANS measurement feature can also be used for dogs and cats. When asked about the timing of measurements for pets, the most common response was “when wanting to check their condition” (over 60%), followed by “at the same time as measuring my own ANS” (about 30%), with “before or after visiting the vet” ranking next.

Predictive Health Insights Feature Encourages Lifestyle Awareness

When asked whether they took any action based on the disease risk predictions provided by the Future Prediction feature (multiple responses allowed), the most common response was “I haven’t done anything in particular” (37.1%). However, 38.7% reported that they became more mindful of their diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle, while 25.8% researched diseases for which they were at risk.
